Mobile Development Platforms & Mobile Design Course Syllabus

This is an entry‐level course on the design and development of Mobile Web Applications. You will explore a variety of different platforms available for you as a designer and developer. You will also develop a good understanding of the components of each platform and your own idea for a mobile application. The mobile development process takes you from initial concept to the identification of the needs of the end user, and finally to the determination of the real value of a user centered design approach. In this course you will also identify the marketing strategies aligned with your chosen platform and device strategy. This course will expose you to current trends in system design. As part of your final project, you will apply a marketing strategy to your mobile application project and define the characteristics of a successful campaign. Course Goals and Instructional Objectives Upon completion of this IT Exploration course, students will be able to: ✓ Demonstrate an awareness of the principles behind user‐centered design theory ✓ Identify resources for marketing and selling mobile applications used across different platforms ✓ Show evidence and awareness of design and development techniques for creating mobile applications to end users ✓ Demonstrate technical fluency in the mobile design and development process ✓ Develop a marketing and sales strategy to promote your mobile application to a targeted audience Course Meeting Dates and Times This course is offered through the CIT department at BHCC. Students can complete assignments ahead of time but each student is expected to contribute at minimum 2 hours per module to successfully complete this course. Attendance Policy: At minimum, students are expected to log into course once every 2 days and to demonstrate an understanding of course concepts by completing course assignments and assignments by the appropriate deadlines stated per module. Teaching Procedures: Although there is no textbook, this course will utilize online media, not limited to but including a variety of websites, use of the BHCC Portal and You‐Tube media, etc. Students will be asked to complete assignments and submit online text assignments in the various modules. Each module may have one or more lessons with 1‐3 assignments.
